FF+: Statement by Anton Alberts, Anton Alberts, states that cruel drag-death of toddler shows crime in South Africa is out of control (21/07/2014)

The cruel drag-death of the four year old Taegrin Morris of Delmore Park, Boksburg, at the hands of hijackers, unequivocally shows that crime in South Africa is out of control despite it being vociferously denied by the ANC government, Adv. Anton Alberts, the FF Plus leader in Gauteng says.

He said that serious consideration will have to be given to re-introduce the death penalty for individuals who commit crimes which are accompanied by such cruelty.

“According to media reports Taegrin was mutilated after he became entangled in the safety belt of his mother’s hijacked car and was dragged for 10km behind the car.

It is unimaginable how his parents Chantel and Elvin must feel and the FF Plus would like to extend its deepest sympathy with the family. It just can’t continue like this. The ability of the police to bring crime under control will have to be explained again,” Adv. Anton Alberts said.

About the incident in which a five year old boy had been found unscathed after he had gone missing on Tuesday of last week during a hijacking, Adv. Alberts says it is heartening that the incident is not just another statistic in the newspapers today.

“In this instance we can be grateful along with his family. But regarding Taegrin Morris, it is something which should never have happened.

“The influence of crime on the lives of South Africans is growing bigger and the FF Plus will continue to fight to make the country a safe place for all its inhabitants, Adv. Alberts says.
