Two employees of Eskom who will be appearing in court today on charges arising from alleged irregular awarding of contracts worth R65 million, are still in senior management positions with this company, Adv. Anton Alberts, the FF Plus’ parliamentary spokesperson on energy says.

The men, Matome Peter Sebola (40) from Pretoria and Jacob Machinjike (51) from Bryanston appeared with Dawid Malherbe (59) in the Bellville magistrate court in September this year already. They were apparently involved in the awarding of irregular contracts for low-cost electricity services in Khayelitsha.

Sebola is as far as it is known still the general manager of Eskom in Gauteng, while Machinjike is the general manager in Johannesburg.

Malherbe was a senior employee with Eskom but was appointed as managing director of PN Energy Services (PNES). PNES was partially owned by Eskom. According to his social media profile, he is the managing director of the company Energy Utility Services (EUS).

The men allegedly colluded to award unlawful contracts to the value of R65 million to Malherbe. This led to Eskom losing nearly R17 million in profit between February 2009 and March 2010.

Adv. Alberts says it is amazing that the men remain in their senior positions with all their benefits, after reports about their alleged involvement in the fraud appeared in June last year already.
