Big progress has has already been made to have the existing statutory increase of 2% that pensioners of Transnet’s two funds receive annually, increased, should the funds’ finances allow it, Adv. Anton Alberts, the FF Plus’ parliamentary spokesperson on Transport said.

In a response to a question asked by Adv. Anton Alberts to the minister of public enterprises, Ms. Lynn Brown, regarding the progress with the issue and a target date, the minister replied that a change of rules about this matter had already been approved by the funds’ board of trustees.

It has also been submitted to Transnet’s board of directors who has also given the green light for a change.

According to Brown, the matter is being dealt with by the department of public enterprises and Treasury, following which she herself and the minister of finance will be giving the final approval.

Adv. Alberts says it is good news that the issue has developed this far. He said the FF Plus will continuously monitor the issue to ensure that the changes are successfully implemented to the advantage of the pensioners.
