FEDUSA: FEDUSA Welcomes Appointment of new SAA CEO

The Federation of Unions of South Africa (FEDUSA) welcomes official announcement of the appointment of South African Airways (SAA) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Vuyani Jarana.

He holds an MBA degree from the University of Stellenbosch where he also been cited by that University as its Alumnus of the Year 2017. Over the years Jarana has established himself as a responsible corporate leader with sound decision making skills. His main strength lies in successfully implementing turn-around strategies and adapting company operations to new technologies.

He comes to SAA from Vodacom where he was CEO of Vodacom Business responsible for driving business growth by enabling businesses and government across Africa to increase their connectivity and digital capabilities. Outside of the corporate world Jarana serves as a Board member of the Eastern Cape Rural Development Agency and chairs the Nelson Mandela Museum Council.

Jarana will be making a salary sacrifice through his acceptance of the CEO position at SAA. The forward looking turn-around plan rests on Finance Minister Malusi Gigaba’ announcement in his inaugural Medium Term Budget Policy Statement in Parliament last week that the state will inject R13 billion into SAA and partially privatise it by inviting a strategic partner. Moreover, according to the Budget Review has received guarantees from government totally up to R19.1 billion.

FEDUSA and our Affiliates at SAA, South African Airways Pilots Association and UASA welcomes the appointment of Mr Vuyani Jarana and pledge to work together with him to turn the struggling national carrier into viable airline company.
