The European Union (EU) on Friday condemned the massacre of muslims in Nigeria by terrorist group Boko Haram.

“The attacks killing around 150 people in two villages in north eastern Borno state in Nigeria and targeting muslim worshippers during the holy month of Ramadan are another attempt to destabilise the country and the region,” said the High Representative of the EU Vice-President of the European Commission Federica Mogherini.

“The EU stands with the Nigerian people and authorities in our common fight against terrorism.”

On Wednesday night, members of Boko Haram attacked two towns in the Borno state which remains the terrorist group’s stronghold. It was reported that muslim Nigerians were attacked while praying in mosques.

Mogherini extended condolences to the families of the murdered: “At this very moment, my thoughts go to the families of the victims.”

She added that the EU would continue its support of Nigerian authorities to tackle terrorism through social and economic development.

“I am confident the Nigerian authorities will continue to fight terrorism with the utmost determination and urgency, respecting rules for engagement,” she said.
