Eskom: Power alert 2 - Eskom wins Standard Bank rising star award

Eskom’s Leon van Wyk from the Group Technology Division has won the 2016 Standard Bank Rising Star Award in the Energy and Environment category.

The awards saw the top Rising Stars in 12 business sectors being recognised. In the Energy and Environment category, Eskom was proud to have had five finalists Lungile Malaza, Jana Breedt, Pieter Rosslee, Bianca Wernecke and van Wyk.

“Having received the honour of being chosen as the Rising Star winner in the Energy and Environment category was a humbling and joyful experience. I highly appreciated the support of my fellow nominees as well as the Eskom management.

“My fellow nominees each deserves to be recognised and praised for their individual achievements and I wish them all well in their future endeavours. This acknowledgement will inspire me to achieve greater heights, but the competition has also taught me valuable life lessons that I can use to develop further,” van Wyk said.

Van Wyk is currently the Engineering Air Quality Manager within the Technology Group at Eskom. He has a master’s degree in Chemical Engineering and is a registered Mechanical Engineering professional. He started work in February of 2010 and has gained his professional experience in flue gas cleaning, focussing on particulate matter control. In his current role, Leon is responsible for overseeing all major Electrostatic Precipitator Plant, Fabric Filter Plant and Desulphurisation Plant projects in Eskom.

Eskom’s Group Executive for Human Resources Elsie Pule said: “We feel very proud of the public recognition afforded to our Eskom Guardians. I am confident that the successes of Leon and the other finalists will motivate other potential young rising stars in Eskom.”
