No load shedding is anticipated today as Eskom intends to meet the country’s electricity demands while performing the requisite maintenance on its power generating plants.

On 14 June 2016, Eskom in the Limpopo Province and the Capricorn College for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the Work Integrated Learning (WIL) programme.

Work Integrated Learning (WIL) is an umbrella term for any purposefully-designed learning programme that integrates theoretical knowledge with authentic practice in a workplace. The purpose of WIL is to develop competence, i.e. the ability to apply knowledge and skills to the demands of the workplace. WIL provides lecturers and students with an understanding of the nature of the workplaces in their chosen fields of training and builds their capacity to apply their college learning in the context of workplace operations.

The objective of the MOU is to formalise the collaboration between Eskom and the college in order to be responsive to WIL and national priorities. The MOU is also in support of the government strategy termed “Decade of the Artisan” which aims to produce 30 000 artisans per year by 2025. To achieve this goal, all artisan development role players will need to commit themselves to realising it and Eskom has committed itself to support the initiative and support the youth of Limpopo. For years Eskom has been at the forefront of technical skills development and will continue to do so in the future.

The MOU will see Eskom in Limpopo taking on 50 N6 learners for experiential learning for 24 months, 50 apprenticeship roles for those aiming to be artisans for 18 months and providing guest lectures where and when available.

Eskom hopes that this agreement will go a long way in developing the youth of Limpopo and preparing them to make them meaningful contributions towards the economic development of the province and the country.

We will continue to provide regular updates on the state of the power system through various media platforms.
