South Africa is a country rich in pathways, tracks and roads – both tar and gravel. It is also a country of wonderful stories, blessed with a varied, colourful and contested history.

For more than a year veteran journalist Luke Alfred walked South Africa’s roads through cities, countryside and everything in between.

About the Author

Luke Alfred is a journalist and well-known author. He currently works as a freelance journalist in Johannesburg for a variety of local and international publications. He worked at the Sunday Times for 10 years and the ​Sunday Independent for nearly seven years. He is happily married to Lisa and they have three sons, two Labradors, two cats and a vegetable garden.
