The Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) will support fifteen Small Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs) operating in the mining sector to showcase their products and services in a National Pavilion that has been set up in partnership with the Department of Mineral Resources (DMR) and Brand South Africa at the Investing in African Mining Indaba taking place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC), from today.

The fifteen SMMEs hail from different parts of the country, and will be provided with opportunities to meet with prospective buyers and investors. Exhibitions will be held alongside the Mining Indaba Conference on the precinct of the CTICC.

According to the Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr Rob Davies, the decision to collaborate with other government departments was motivated by the fact that Mining Indaba is a global event that provides a global perspective on African mining and thus it gives an opportunity for government to utilise it to the advantage of its private sector.

“The Mining Indaba is a big marketing opportunity for South Africa to highlight the investment opportunities in this sector. Despite the current cyclical downturn in the mining industry, South Africa by virtue of it being a leading country with reserves in number of key commodities remains an extremely attractive mining investment destination and has opportunities for the whole value-chain,” adds Davies.
