The Gabonese Director-General for International Cooperation, Mr Guy Christian Mounguengui urged South African businesspeople to take advantage of the Gabonese Strategic Investment Fund when setting up operations to ensure that their businesses are provided with adequate support when venturing into the country. Mounguengui was addressing the business seminar that formed part of the Department of Trade and Industry’s (the dti) Outward Trade and Investment Mission in Gabon yesterday.

“The fact that you have chosen to travel to Gabon is indicative of your willingness and readiness to conduct trade with the Gabonese business community. It is because of this demonstration that we setup a Strategic Investment Fund in 2009, to ensure that we create an enabling environment and that we support businesses that are willing to take a chance trading in our country,” said Mounguengui.

Monguengui added that the fund was tailor-made to specifically support foreign businesses that are looking to invest or do business in Gabon.

“Another measure that we have put in place to enable the ease of conducting business in Gabon is the no-Visa requirement for short-term travel to Gabon on business missions. It is my belief that through these measures that we have put in place your businesses will definitely flourish in Gabon and lead to the growth of intra-African trade with our fellow neighbouring countries,” said Munguengui.

The programme for the Gabon mission will include roundtable discussions, breakaways sessions, mini exhibitions and a visit to the Libreville Industrial Development Zone.
