The Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr Rob Davies has left for Shanghai, China to attend the G20 Trade Ministers meeting to be held on 9-10 July 2016. A G20 Trade and Investment Working Group (TIWG) was establish this year following a decision by the G20 leaders to better coordinate efforts to reinforce trade and investment. The Trade Ministers will consider the outcomes and recommendations from the TIWG.

The key issues for discussions include mechanisms to support global trade growth; supporting the multilateral trading system; promoting global investment policy corporation and coordination; and promoting inclusive and coordinated global value chains including efforts to enhance capacity building to assist developing countries and SMEs to integrate into the global value chains.

Minister Davies said that “the meeting is taking place at a critical time when the global economy is experiencing global shifts, including a slowdown in global trade which is a concern for all countries”. The G20 Trade Ministers meeting will thus offer an opportunity for engagement on key trade and investment issues that affect global trade.
