The Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport is shocked by the recent incident where three (03) new Scholar Transport buses were burnt down. The horrific incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning, the 23rd of July 2016 at Esibusisweni Combined School in Panbult under Mkhondo Local Minicipality in Gert Sibande District, where the buses were stationed.

The burnt buses were amongst the thirty (30) new buses that were recently purchased by the Department for Amsterdam Circuit in Gert Sibande District to improve scholar transport services. It is regrettable that such act of criminality takes the development of the community backward especially those deserving learners who have to endure walking over 5km to school everyday.

The cause of the incident has not yet been established as the matter is being investigated by the police. We call upon members of the community to provide information that could help the police to resolve this matter urgently.
