DoL: Labour on theft at Soweto Labour Centre

An overnight break-in at Soweto Labour Centre located at No: 2 Khumalo main road, Orlando West has caused the loss of 10 fujitsu computers, extensive damage to the entrance glass doors, security doors and IT cabling.

This has led to the closure of the centre until further notice. Clients are advised to go to Roodepoort and Krugersdorp for services.

We condemn in the strongest terms the burglary and theft of computers at our service delivery point. Our offices are there to serve the public, most notably the vulnerable workers who can only access their Unemployment Insurance benefits, Compensation fund claims or report ill treatment by employers.

We appeal to members of the public not to buy stolen property and to report to the nearest Police station anyone who can be found trying to sell this equipment. The incident has been reported to the police and investigations are underway.
