MEC for Infrastructure Development in Gauteng Jacob Mamabolo today speedily resolved water outages affecting the Jubilee District Hospital in Hammanskraal, City of Tshwane.

Mamabolo held a meeting with the Chief Executive Officer of the hospital, Ms. D.L. Magano, and officials from both the Department of Health and the Department of Infrastructure Development (DID). The unannounced visit followed the contamination of the area’s water pipeline following a reported case of cable theft, which led to sewerage entering the main water supply.

During his visit Mamabolo tasked his team of engineers and artisans to ensure a reliable and sustainable water supply to the hospital before close of business today - Wednesday, October 26, 2016.

The MEC has tasked the DID team to secure alternative sources of water in case of further disruptions in hospitals and clinics across the province. The team will finalise the installation and connection of ten (10) Jojo tanks to the Jubilee Hospital’s water system, guaranteeing a reliable supply to the facility.

The DID is the custodian of the Gauteng Provincial Government’s Immovable Assets and is responsible for building infrastructure such as schools, clinics, hospitals, libraries amongst others, on behalf of client departments. Some of these departments are Education, Health, Social Development and Arts and Culture. The department is also responsible for the maintenance of all these facilities with schools being the exception.
