The Department of Infrastructure Development has moved closer to the implementation of the multi-billion rand Kopanong Precinct Development Project in the inner city of Johannesburg. MEC Jacob Mamabolo told the Gauteng Provincial Legislature that the department is forging ahead with the implementation of the Precinct as Private Public Partnership (PPP).

A significant milestone has been the appointment of a Transactional Advisor.

“The Transactional Advisor will be instrumental in ensuring that we get professional and expert advice in the implementation of the project. The role of advisor includes advisory services in areas such as: operations management, legal, finance, and built environment services,” said Mamabolo.

The detailed feasibility study for the project is expected to be completed by the end of December 2016 and this allows the department to obtain full Treasury Approval I (TAI) from National Treasury, and thereby pave a way for engaging the market.

For 2015/16 financial year the department has allocated R8 million budget for the Kopanong Precinct. Once completed the Kopanong Precinct will transform the look and feel of the Inner City through the provincial government’s Office Park Precinct
