Deutsche Bundesbank President to deliver Public Lecture at Unisa

The President of the Deutsche Bundesbank, Dr Jens Weidman, will deliver a public lecture on “The role of the central bank in a modern economy – a European perspective,” at the University of South Africa (UNISA) in Pretoria.
 
Dr Weidman is on a short visit to South Africa and Namibia from 11 to 13 February 2019. The purpose of this visit is to foster international relations between the Deutsche Bundesbank and the South African Reserve Bank and the Bank of Namibia.
 
During his stay, he will be meeting both central banks and the governments of South Africa and Namibia.
 
Dr Weidman has been the president of the Deutsche Bundesbank (the independent central bank of the Federal Republic of Germany) and a member of the governing council of the European Central Bank since May 2011. In May 2015 he also became chairman of the board of directors of the Bank for International settlements in Basel.
 
The public lecture is to take place as follows:
