Deputy Ministers to commemorate the birthday of Solomon Mahlangu

Remembering the birth of "a heroic son of our people" Solomon Kalushi Mahlangu, Deputy Minister in the Presidency for Planning Monitoring and Evaluation, Youth Development and Administration Mr Buti Manamela will celebrate the struggle hero’s birthday with Mahlangu’s family.

The commemoration will also include the youth from Gauteng Province as well as beneficiaries of the NYDA Solomon Mahlangu Scholarship. The commemoration is in partnership with the Deputy Minister of Communications, Ms Tandi Mahambehlala.

The celebration will commence with the laying of wreaths at the cemetery followed by a formal programme at Mahlangu’s home in Mamelodi. Thereafter Kalushi will be screened for the youth by Nu Metro Cinemas. National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) will facilitate the screening of the film and a dialogue.

Kalushi, is a South African Film which narrates the life of Solomon Mahlangu and tells the story of the martyr through South African voices. The dialogue will be held to provide young people with an opportunity to highlight the challenges that the youth of today are faced with and what have they learned from the story of Solomon Mahlangu and other young freedom fighters.

The programme is part of the work of the Presidential Working Group on Creative Industries.
