DEPUTY MINISTERS BULELANI MAGWANISHE AND BUTI MANAMELA TO SWITCH ON A TELEMATICS SYSTEM IN LIMPOPO

24th February 2017

The Deputy Minister of Public Enterprises, Bulelani Magwanishe and the Deputy Minister in the Presidency for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Buti Manamela, will officially launch a telematics system at Phagameng High school. The delivery of the learning support system is an effort to improve leaner performance at the local level.  The event will take place on 27 February 2017 in Modimolle, Limpopo Province.

The telematics system is an interactive digital learning platform, where grade 8-12 learners sit for Maths and Science tutorials and revisions through a virtual classroom. The learners will be taught by tutors from the University of Stellenbosch.

The project is in partnership with the Department of Basic Education, the University of Stellenbosch and Eskom which is under the umbrella of the DPE State Owned Companies.

Phagameng High school is one of many rural and township schools that are beneficiaries of the Eskom sponsored project which is a flagship Corporate Social Investment (CSI) initiative of the department and its State Owned Companies (SOCs).

As a standard practice, State Owned Companies will exhibit at the school to showcase SOC training and skills development opportunities available to learners. In addition, maths dictionaries, school uniform sanitary towels school shoes and fruit trees will be donated to the school as well as surrounding schools in the area.
