The Democratic Alliance (DA) has announced that its leader Mmusi Maimane and Tshwane Mayoral Candidate Solly Msimanga will on Monday launch the party’s "Tshwane manifesto for change".

"At a time when the capital city is held ransom by warring ANC [African National Congress] factions, it is important that the people of Tshwane hear the DA’s vision for Tshwane. A vision that talks about change that creates jobs, stops corruption and delivers better services," said the DA in a statement.

The DA comments were in apparent reference to the violent protests in Tshwane last week that culminated in torching of buses and looting of shops. Five people died in the mayhem sparked by the announcement by the African National Congress (ANC) that former cabinet minister Thoko Didiza was its mayoral candidate for Tshwane.

Protesters demanded that Tshwane mayor Kgosientso “Sputla” Ramokgopa be retained, but the ANC has refused to budge. More than 100 suspects have been arrested in connection with the violence.

On Monday the DA said Maimane and the mayoral candidate will be joined by party National Spokesperson Refiloe Nt’sekhe MPL, and Tshwane Regional Chairperson Fred Nel MPL at the launch of the "Tshwane manifesto for change".

The launch is taking place as follows at Block X Community Hall in Tshwane.
