Varsities to stay shut amid uncertainty over protests

Mugabe says Africa is ready to pull out of the UN

And, the ANC youth League says Gordhan is not Jesus Christ

Several universities across the country have elected to remain shut today following uncertainty over ongoing fee protests.

Three petrol bombs were found on the University of the Witwatersrand's Braamfontein campus over the weekend.

Wits, the University of Cape Town, and Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in Port Elizabeth would be shut today.

Wits spokesperson Shirona Patel said that the institute's senior executive team would meet today to consider its options.

Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe has reportedly said that the African continent was ready to pull out of the United Nations if its demand for reform was not met.

Mugabe said the AU was planning to form a splinter group with countries such as Russia, China and India if the UN Security Council did not include members of its continent next year.

The veteran leader said this upon his arrival at the Harare international Airport where he addressed hundreds of his Zanu-PF party supporters, who welcomed him on his return from the UN General Assembly in New York.

Ongoing public spats between the Hawks and Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan are unacceptable, the ANC Youth League said yesterday.

The league said it equally called on Pravin not to fall into trap of wanting to be the Jesus Christ of our times, and claimed that in the entire movement, he was the only one committed to fighting corruption.

The league said the matter between the Hawks and Gordhan should not be taken into the public discourse, but resolved between them in private.
