Zuma given leave to appeal State capture report costs order

A full bench in the North Gauteng High Court has granted former President Jacob Zuma the right to intervene in the leave to appeal the State capture report case.

This means that the former president may now apply for leave to appeal the personal costs order against him, which was an order made by the same court in December last year, after the court dismissed Zuma’s review application of the public protector’s report.

 

Cabinet approves new Mining Charter

Cabinet has approved the latest version of the long-delayed mining charter which lay outs requirements for black ownership levels and other targets.

Communications Minister Nomvula Mokonyane told reporters that more details about the charter would be announced on Friday by President Cyril Ramaphosa when he unveils a new economic stimulus package.

The mining charter could still be the subject of legal challenges from the mining industry, if companies are unhappy with its contents after it is published.

 

Ramaphosa to unveil economic stimulus package on Friday

President Cyril Ramaphosa will, on Friday, unveil a stimulus package that he hopes will kick-start South Africa’s lagging economy.

Cabinet has signed off on the measures, which they hope will reignite economic growth.

South Africa is currently in a technical recession following two successive quarters of negative economic growth.
