Making headlines: Ramaphosa’s advisor says he is not considering resigning; ANC nomination process delayed; And, Patricia Kopane is ActionSA’s Free State chairperson

 

Ramaphosa’s advisor says he is not considering resigning

President Cyril Ramaphosa is not considering resigning from his job, according to his political advisor, Bejani Chauke, who said claims that Ramaphosa wanted to relinquish his presidential duties were false.

An unverified video circulating cited reports that Ramaphosa's resignation was imminent.

Ramaphosa is facing multiple probes into alleged wrongdoing following the revelation of a burglary at his farm in February 2020, where at least R8-million in US dollars was stolen.

While Chauke insisted that Ramaphosa was not considering stepping down from his position, at least two ANC leaders close to Ramaphosa touted the possibility of him stepping down when the accusations first surfaced.

But, they said, he was not considering stepping down "at this point".

 

ANC nomination process delayed

The African National Congress has delayed the start of its nomination processes for the party’s leadership so that membership figures can be audited.

The party was due to begin branch meetings today, where ANC branches could nominate their preferred candidates for the party's top leadership as well as the national executive committee at the December conference.

But the deadline for the renewal of ANC branch membership was extended, resulting in a delay.

ANC spokesperson Pule Mabe said the party expects to finalise the audit process this week.

 

And, Patricia Kopane is ActionSA’s Free State chairperson

Newly elected ActionSA Free State provincial chairperson Patricia Kopane said today that she is committed to getting justice for the people affected by the African National Congress and former Free State Premier Ace Magashule’s “craven corruption” in the province.

Kopane resigned from the Democratic Alliance last month, after serving the party for over 19 years.

She said she would crisscross the province and promised to hold the ANC government accountable.

Kopane stated that there was no doubt that ethical leaders would add value to ActionSA’s efforts to unseat the ANC which, she says, had allowed the province to languish in destitution for far too long.
