Malema says DA not guaranteed EFF vote

EFF leader Julius Malema has said that the party can no longer guarantee that it will vote with the DA.

Malema's comments came after EFF's boycott of municipal council meetings in DA-led metros which was sparked by the removal of Nelson Mandela Bay Deputy Mayor Mongameli Bobani of the UDM through a motion of no confidence supported by the DA.

Malema, who was speaking at the University of South Africa in Pretoria after receiving his BA Honours degree in philosophy yesterday evening, said there were no cracks between the EFF and the DA because they had never been in a coalition.

Electoral commission says Angola's ruling MPLA wins election with 61 percent of the vote

Angola's ruling People's Movement for the Liberation of Angola party has won a general election by taking 61.07 percent of the vote, the electoral commission said yesterday, making João Lourenço the next president of sub-Saharan Africa’s third-largest economy.

He will replace Jose Eduardo dos Santos, who steps down after 38 years at the helm but will continue as head of the MPLA.

The main opposition National Union for the Total Independence of Angola took 26.67 percent, with the smaller opposition party CASA-CE winning 9.44 percent.

Lourenço told supporters at his party’s headquarters in Luanda that the mission was accomplished.

He said in his first comments as president-elect that they will produce a better future for the country and the people of Angola. He is expected to take office on September 21.

And, Mathews Phosa campaign to lead ANC heads to Limpopo

Mathews Phosa who has joined the race to take over from President Jacob Zuma as leader of the ANC at the elective conference in December is taking his campaign to Limpopo today.

The ANC presidential hopeful will address the Limpopo traditional leaders indaba at the Apel Community Hall, in Sekhukhune, as part of his bid to unify the party and its structures.

Katlego Mphela, the Limpopo convenor of Phosa’s campaign, said representatives of Congress of South African Students, South African Students Congress, Congress of Traditional Leaders of South Africa and civic movements were expected to speak in support of the attorney. Phosa is a former premier of Mpumalanga. He is a member of the National Executive Committee of the ANC.

Other hopefuls to lead the ANC include; Cyril Ramaphosa, Nkosanzana Dlamini-Zuma, and Lindiwe Sisulu.
