Making headlines:

DA says Nene to be investigated by public protector

Nene's IMF trip eases fears over his future

And, Ramaphosa to hand over land to community in Empangeni

The Democratic Alliance said on Tuesday that the Public Protector would, at its request, investigate Finance Minister Nhlanhla Nene.

DA shadow minister of finance David Maynier said he had asked the Public Protector Advocate Busisiwe Mkhwebane to probe Nene in terms of the Executive Members Ethics Act, to determine whether he breached the executive code of ethics applicable to ministers and deputy ministers in South Africa.

Nene has faced growing calls to resign over his involvement with the controversial Gupta family. Last Friday Nene apologised for not disclosing early and fully the details of his meetings with them. He said he realised this cast a shadow on his conduct as a public office bearer.

Meanwhile, Treasury said on Tuesday that Finance minister Nhlanhla Nene is traveling to Indonesia for an International Monetary Fund meeting, a statement that may soothe markets a day after media reports said that he had asked the president to sack him.

A Treasury spokesperson said Nene was expected to arrive in Indonesia on Wednesday. Nene is due to read the mid-term budget later this month.

And on Sunday President Cyril Ramaphosa will hand over 4 586 hectares of land to the community of KwaMkhwanazi in Empangeni, in KwaZulu-Natal.

The Presidency said that the community will receive title deeds as well as post-settlement packages and support to assist them in leveraging the potential wealth of the land and managing the land sustainably to create opportunities for employment and to alleviate poverty.

In his 2018 State of the Nation Address, the president said land reform and restitution will be pursued in a manner that is effective, constitutional and sustainable.
