Gordhan lays charges against Malema

Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan says "Enough is enough."

Gordhan has laid charges of criminal defamation, crimen injuria, incitement of violence against Economic Freedom Fighters leader Julius Malema, after the politician verbally attacked him last week.

Speaking to media outside the Brooklyn Police Station after opening the case, the minister said arguing politically was fine but lying will divide South African society and added that it was totally unacceptable.

Malema has made claims over contracts involving Gordhan's daughter, Anisha, saying they were allegedly awarded by National Treasury and other government departments, seemingly as a result of her father's position in government.

 

Dlamini denies banning media from event

Minister in the Presidency Responsible for Women Bathabile Dlamini says she never barred eNCA from attending an event in KwaZulu-Natal at the weekend but is probing what happened between her officials and journalists.

The broadcaster reported yesterday that it was barred from entering a hall where Dlamini launched the 16 Days of Activism Campaign in Mthonjaneni, northern KwaZulu-Natal.

Her spokesperson Mandla Tshabalala said the minister wishes to clearly state that she will never instruct any reporter or journalist to leave any venue especially when it is an event of government.

 

Ramaphosa says process of speeding up land reform would be well-managed

President Cyril Ramaphosa invoked the management style of Nelson Mandela yesterday when speaking of how the State would manage land reform.

Ramaphosa was a guest at the Gauteng Conference of the South African Jewish Board of Deputies where he said the process of speeding up land reform would be well-managed.

Ramaphosa said he spent a great deal of time listening to Mandela and crafting his own political acumen around Mandela's values, principles and integrity.

He said that 24 years after the first democratic elections, many South Africans were excluded from meaningful participation in the economy and addressing unequal land distribution was needed to move the country forward.
