Maimane heads DA protest at Bosasa HQ

Democratic Alliance Mmusi Maimane today lead a protest at the headquarters of African Global Operations, formerly named Bosasa, against what he insists was a half a million rand bribe to President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Maimane said the latest admission by Ramaphosa that Bosasa donated at least R500 000 to his campaign for the ANC presidency was nothing short of a bribe and required an extensive investigation.

The protest, at the Krugersdorp headquarters of the company, comes after Ramaphosa sent Parliament a correction to a reply he gave Maimane to a question over a R500 000 payment from Bosasa CEO Gavin Watson, for the alleged benefit of his son Andile.

 

Opposition parties scathing of Ramaphosa

Opposition political parties have used President Cyril Ramaphosa's Cabinet reshuffle yesterday as an opportunity to slam him.   

The DA's Mmusi Maimane said the announcement did not represent any real change and added that the decks had simply been reshuffled to please the ANC insiders.

He questioned why now Environmental Affairs Minister Nomvula Mokonyane and Minister of Women in the Presidency Bathabile Dlamini remained.

The Economic Freedom Fighters said the initiative to reconcile the departments of telecommunications and communications into one single department, was long overdue.

 

National Assembly adopts impeachment rules

The National Assembly has approved rules to remove a president in terms of Section 89 or impeachment, and the Economic Freedom Fighters wants to test it immediately on President Cyril Ramaphosa.

The rule was adopted unanimously.

DA chief whip John Steenhuisen thanked every member of the Rules Committee, who drafted the rules, and said it gave effect to Section 89 of the Constitution.

EFF MP Mbuyiseni Ndlozi also welcomed the rules but lamented that their suggestion that an independent body, overseen by a judge, be appointed to determine if a president has a case to answer, wasn't accepted.
