Trevor Manuel says ANC NEC is a product of branch manipulation
Former finance minister Trevor Manuel has blamed the ailing ANC on a poorly-elected National Executive Committee.
Speaking at the Eric Molobi Lecture at the University of Johannesburg last night, Manuel criticised the NEC and alluded that it was mindlessly following President Jacob Zuma.
He said the ill-conceived NEC elected in Mangaung produced at its watch a crisis of illegitimate provincial executives that, in turn, oversaw the elections of poor regional executives and, in turn, destroyed the branch structures.
Dlamini-Zuma says she is not corrupt and doesn’t loot'
The ANC presidential hopeful Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma last night rejected public speculation that she was corrupt, saying that she never accepted any money from cigarette smugglers.
Her comments follow a Sunday Times report, which alleged that her presidential campaign received a financial contribution from self-confessed tobacco smuggler, Adriano Mazzotti.
In a series of tweets, the former AU chairperson said she has never been involved in corruption.
Gordhan says the truth will prevail
Former finance minister Pravin Gordhan yesterday said that while it was not up to him to test the veracity of the allegations in Jacques Pauw's book The President’s Keepers, the truth would prevail.
Speaking at the launch of the book in Brooklyn Mall in Pretoria, Gordhan said South Africa needed more people like Pauw to show the minority of people bringing the country to its knees, that the majority would not allow that.
Gordhan, who was axed as finance minister by President Jacob Zuma, has been outspoken about State capture and the president.
Also making headlines:
President Jacob Zuma mocked books which had been written about him as well as MPs' reading habits when he addressed the National Council of Provinces on yesterday afternoon.
