EFF lays complaint against Gordhan with Public Protector

The Economic Freedom Fighters have asked the Public Protector to investigate Minister of Public Enterprises Pravin Gordhan for misleading Parliament regarding meeting the Gupta family.

A day after Gordhan's written submission to the Zondo inquiry into State capture was leaked, the EFF said it suggested that he had lied when he told the legislature in 2016 that he has not attended any meetings with the controversial Gupta family.

The EFF said it appeared "Gordhan deliberately did not include" a meeting he held with Indian billionaire Amil Ambaani and Ajay Gupta and therefore found himself in breach of the Executive Ethics Code.

Disgruntled ANC North West members take party to court

Angry ANC members from the North West, who are challenging the party's decision to disband its provincial executive committee, have expressed confidence ahead of their legal clash with the party today.

Four members, who have since been joined by former ANC North West provincial chairperson Supra Mahumapelo with the help of advocates Tembeka Ngcukaitobi and Dali Mpofu, will take on the ANC's national executive committee in the South Gauteng High Court.

The applicants are accusing the ANC's highest decision-making of not acting "impartially" in dealing with the platinum-rich province.

Zondo to investigate source of witness statement leaks

Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo, who is chairing the commission of inquiry into State capture, has said that an investigation would be conducted into the leaking of witness statements before those witnesses had given evidence at the inquiry.

This relates to the statement submitted to the Commission by Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan, which was leaked to the media.

Zondo said since the commencement of the public hearings of the Commission in August, various sections of the media have disseminated and published contents of witnesses’ statements submitted to the Commission before the witnesses gave evidence and without the written permission of the Chairperson.
