SSA makes second attempt to gag Jacques Pauw's book

The State Security Agency has sent yet another cease and desist letter to get The Presidents Keepers withdrawn from bookshelves, but this time the letter was sent to its title editor Russel Martin.

Author and veteran journalist Jacques Pauw announced during the official launch of his book that the SSA's cease and desist letter gave him two days to withdraw the book or he could face being taken to court.

Pauw’s lawyer Willem De Klerk confirmed to News24 that Martin had received the “threatening” letter.

However, de Klerk said the letter was completely misplaced as Martin had merely edited the book and had no part in writing the book or in the decision making.

Pauw's book exposes how millions of rand of taxpayers' money flowed into the bank accounts of bogus spies, along with other revelations about President Jacob Zuma’s compromised government.

 

Mkhize says ANC has been 'grappling' with corruption

The ANC treasurer-general and presidential hopeful Zweli Mkhize's contribution to fighting corruption, as a current member of the ANC's top six, was to support the establishment of a commission of inquiry into State capture.

This was Mkhize's answer to the question on what he did to fight corruption as allegations of wrongdoing piled during his term as one of the party's top officials, when he addressed the Cape Town Press Club on Wednesday.

Mkhize said the "questions" around President Jacob Zuma must be investigated and everything must be corroborated.

 

SABC board committed to its independence

The South African Broadcasting Corporation board is committed to ensuring its independence, its board chairperson Bongumusa Makhathini said yesterday.

This comes after Communications Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane said on Tuesday that she would appeal a high court judgement that gave the SABC board, and not the minister of communications, the right to appoint the broadcaster's top executives.

A statement from Makhathini says the SABC was currently seeking senior counsel legal advice on the judgement and the grounds for appeal detailed in the papers filed by the Minister of Communications, in particular, those that relate to the appointment of the top three executives of the SABC.
