EFF leader Julius Malema is expected to appear in the Newcastle Magistrate’s Court today for allegedly urging his supporters to invade land.

Malema has been charged with contravening the Riotous Assemblies Act of 1956.

During the party's elective conference in Bloemfontein in 2014, Malema, reportedly told his supporters that they were going to occupy unoccupied land because they needed it.

Civil rights group AfriForum laid the charges against him. 

 

The DA is in talks with Members of Parliament as it tries to call for another motion of no confidence in President Jacob Zuma, the opposition party said yesterday.

While party leader Mmusi Maimane would not say who they were talking to, he said discussions were ongoing.

He said they would explore legal options after the motion was not listed on the National Assembly's schedule for this week, despite having been provisionally scheduled for Thursday.

Parliament under the leadership of Speaker Baleka Mbete had been "captured", he said.

 

South African Communist Party general secretary Blade Nzimande has labelled the politically connected Gupta family as "parasites", and has called for their influence to be defeated.

Nzimande was speaking at a Red October rally in Sebokeng where he said parasites like the Guptas were not the alternative to monopoly capital.

He said there should be no opposition to former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela’s recommendation for a judicial inquiry into the family's alleged improper relationship with President Jacob Zuma and state owned enterprises.
