SACP says threats to ban Jacques Pauw’s book and concoct charges against its leaders are serious cause for concern

Threats by the State Security Agency to act to silence the latest source of mounting evidence that President Jacob Zuma should resign are cause for serious concern, the South African Communist Party said yesterday.

The SACP said that it was also aware of a plan by the same rogue intelligence structures that had been planning to bring concocted charges against some of its party leaders.

The SSA had threatened to go to court to get large parts of veteran investigative journalist Jacques Pauw’s book “The President’s Keepers” banned, warning the publishers in writing to withdraw the book or face “criminal charges” under the Intelligence Services Act.

Meanwhile Pauw said he was not shocked that his latest exposé about President Zuma's alleged shady dealings was facing court action.

 

Ramaphosa announces Pandor for deputy for #CR17

Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa announced his running mates at a rally in Sekhukhuneland, Limpopo yesterday.

He urged supporters at the #CR17 rally in Tafelkop to support comrade Naledi Pandor for deputy president.

For secretary general, he named former KwaZulu-Natal ANC chairperson Senzo Mchunu, for national chairperson he named current secretary general Gwede Mantashe, and for treasurer general Paul Mashatile, the chairperson of the party in Gauteng.

Ramaphosa vowed that he would build an ANC that is "stronger" and "renewed".

 

Mbalula says keep politics out of policing

Police officers must stay out of politics and focus on combating crime, which is ''out of hand'', Police Minister Fikile Mbalula said in Tshwane yesterday.

Mbalula told Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union members at their Central Executive Meeting in Irene to depoliticise the South African Police Service.

He said the Saps should be led by management that cares for its people and focus on crime prevention and fighting.
