Ramaphosa fires Moyane as Sars boss

President Cyril Ramaphosa yesterday, terminated, with immediate effect, the appointment of Tom Moyane as Commissioner of the South African Revenue Service.

The Presidency said that Ramaphosa's decision followed the recommendation made by the Sars Commission chaired by Judge Robert Nugent that immediate action was needed to forestall any further deterioration of the country's tax administration system.

Ramaphosa said that the representations submitted by Moyane in response to the recommendations of the Nugent Commission failed "entirely to deal with the substantive issues the report raises".

Mahumapelo in court to challenge PEC disbandment

Former North West ANC chairperson Supra Mahumapelo has joined the legal battle to have a decision by the national executive council to disband his provincial executive committee overturned.

Some branches and regions in the North West have rejected the provincial task team that was put in place last month and have turned to the courts, claiming the decision wasn't "impartial".

Mahumapelo is expected to be represented by advocate Dali Mpofu in the South Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg.

Paul Mashatile admits ANC received two payments from Vele Investments

ANC treasurer general Paul Mashatile has admitted that the party received R2-million from the now collapsed bank VBS Mutual.

This follows the Sunday Times report that the party received a R2-million donation from the bank's majority shareholder, Vele Investments.

Yesterday, Mashatile confirmed to eNCA exclusively that the amount was received through Vele Investments.

He also admitted that the amount was not documented in the ANC's books.
