Cape Town Mayor Patricia de Lille is today expected to announce further plans to deal with the city’s water shortage.

The "Water Resilience Plan", which will be tabled in the city council, is expected to include increased measures to avoid acute water shortages.

Dam storage levels were now at 19.7% and consumption levels were still too high.

 

The political marriage of Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa and trade union federation the Congress of South African Trade Unions was sealed yesterday as they sang each other praises.

Cosatu was hosting its 6th central committee meeting in Irene, where more than 300 delegates had gathered to review its previous resolutions.

The federation's president, Sdumo Dlamini, who was chastised by a union leader for failing to reiterate the federation's decisions in his opening address on Monday, spent a lengthy period praising the deputy president and thanking him for the various roles he had played in South Africa's democracy.

 

ANC Chief Whip Jackson Mthembu said yesterday that only a "bewitched" party would vote against its own decisions, thereby removing its own president and government.

Mthembu was speaking during Parliament's budget vote debate in the National Assembly where he said it was very surprising that ANC members were expected to vote against their own decisions.
