ANC nominates Willies Mchunu as next KZN premier

Zuma to appeal spy tapes ruling

And, Faith Muthambi to consider High Court judgment

The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal accepted Premier Senzo Mchunu’s resignation and nominated deputy chairperson, Willies Mchunu, to succeed him, the party said yesterday evening.

ANC provincial secretary Super Zuma said the ANC in KwaZulu-Natal had received, considered and accepted the resignation of Mchunu from the position of premier of the province.

Zuma  said Mchunu’s decision followed a detailed assessment of the state of governance in the province and extensive consultation with the National Executive Committee.

The party paid tribute to Mchunu who will be deployed to the National Assembly.

President Jacob Zuma has applied for leave to appeal a court ruling that 783 corruption charges against him must be reinstated, the Presidency said yesterday.

Zuma gave five reasons for his decision and felt strongly that the High Court in Pretoria had erred in several respects, his office said in a statement.

These included its holding that the National Director of Public Prosecutions was not entitled to terminate a prosecution on the basis of prosecutorial misconduct and the abuse of the prosecutorial process.

After a seven-year battle by the Democratic Alliance, the court ruled on April 29 that the decision to discontinue the prosecution against Zuma should be reviewed and set aside.

Communications Minister Faith Muthambi will study the Western Cape High Court’s judgment upholding its earlier ruling that SABC COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng’s appointment was irrational.

Her office said Muthambi will be meeting her legal team to consider the judgment and any course of action to follow.

Judge Dennis David upheld the court’s November 2015 ruling that Motsoeneng’s appointment was irrational.

Motsoeneng said Public Protector Thuli Madonsela’s report on his appointment was “misleading the country”.
