Presidency slams Gordhan arrest rumours.

Teaching expected to resume at Vuwani schools.

And, ANC PGC accepts Zuma apology.

The Presidency yesterday slammed media reports of the “imminent arrest” of Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan.

President Jacob Zuma’s spokesperson Bongani Ngqulunga said they had also noted the response of law enforcement agencies which had swiftly denied the rumour.

Ngqulunga said it was therefore clear that the story was the work of dangerous information peddlers who wished to cause confusion and mayhem in the country.

The Sunday Times reported that the Hawks wanted Gordhan to be prosecuted for “espionage” in a case related to the activities of the SARS “rogue unit” established while he was the tax agency’s commissioner.

Schooling is expected resume in Vuwani today following recent protests in the area.

Department of Corporate Governance and Traditional Affairs spokesperson, Legadima Leso, said in a statement that parents are urged to play their part in sending their children back to school, although some pupils would have to go to class in temporary containers.

Police were expected in the area to ensure disruptions were avoided while learners attempted to continue with academic activities.

Last week saw the Vhembe municipal area declared a disaster area after 50 schools were either burnt down or vandalised as residents protested following the Limpopo High Court's dismissal of residents' attempts to overturn the decision.

The Provincial General Council (or PGC) in Gauteng yesterday resolved to accept President Jacob Zuma’s apology on the Nkandla matter in a meeting held at the weekend.

However, it said that the president, NEC and the whole movement must continue reflecting on the matter.

The party further said it would continue to improve the lives of the people to ensure a decisive victory during the local government elections on August 3.

In April, the Gauteng ANC's PEC issued a statement calling on Zuma to "do the right thing" to fix the political damage caused by the Nkandla matter.
