Ramaphosa off to Geneva to assume co-chair of ILO global commission

President Cyril Ramaphosa will today assume the position of Co-Chair of the Global Commission on the Future of Work of the International Labour Organisation in Geneva, Switzerland.

Ramaphosa will attend the working dinner to consider the Framework on the Global Commission's Final Report in terms of findings and recommendations to be made.

Spokesperson to the president Khusela Diko said in a statement that Ramaphosa and the Prime Minister of Sweden Stefan Löfven, both former trade unionists, will on Wednesday, co-chair the 28 members Commission meeting to oversee the preparation of a major report on the future of work which will be published in early 2019 and seek to understand and make proposals on how to effectively respond to new challenges.

Zuma's lawyers to make representations in challenge against Abrahams' decision for him to stand trial

Former President Jacob Zuma's legal team is expected to make representations to the KwaZulu-Natal High Court next week as it seeks a review of National Director of Public Prosecutions Shaun Abrahams' decision that there was no reason for him not to stand trial.

The 16 charges relate to the controversial multibillion-rand arms deal. 

During Zuma's previous appearance, thousands gathered to support the infamous former president.

The National Interfaith Council of South Africa, in partnership with the Commission for Religious Affairs, rallied behind Zuma.

Advocate Billy Downer, SC, a deputy director of public prosecutions in the Western Cape, is leading the State's case against Zuma.

 

And, Corruption Watch questions NPA's 'reluctance' to prosecute Tom Moyane

Corruption Watch said the National Prosecuting Authority told the organisation that it is reviewing its decision not to prosecute Tom Moyane.

It said this development came about after Corruption Watch asked for a certificate to be issued confirming that the NPA was not going ahead with the prosecution, as it wanted to pursue a private criminal prosecution.

The suspended South African Reserve Service commissioner is facing disciplinary charges.

Corruption Watch in a statement released yesterday questioned why there appeared to be what it called "an apparent reluctance" on the part of the NPA to prosecute Moyane.
