The South African Broadcasting Corporation will not have the financial resources to meet its financial obligations. 

These were the words of Communications Minister Ayanda Dlodlo yesterday afternoon who admitted this during questions to the financial cluster in the National Assembly.

Earlier on Wednesday, the interim SABC board presented an update on the steps they had taken since assuming their work in mid-April.

Dlodlo was responding to DA MP Phumzile van Damme’s question on whether the public broadcaster will make a loss of R509-million for the fourth quarter of the financial year, which ended on March 31. 

The DA says President Jacob Zuma wants to delay the legal process after he filed an application for leave to appeal the decision of the North Gauteng High Court, ordering him to submit the record and reasons of the decision to reshuffle the cabinet.

The DA has applied to the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria to force Zuma to produce the report that he used to justify his late night Cabinet reshuffle on March 30.

DA spokesperson Mabine Seabe said the president was keeping these reasons from the people of South Africa, and was using every possible court process to do so.

The Helen Suzman Foundation wants the Constitutional Court to direct National Assembly speaker Baleka Mbete to form an independent committee to establish whether President Jacob Zuma should remain in office.

In two batches of court papers filed at the Constitutional Court yesterday afternoon, the foundation asked the court to declare Zuma’s decision to remove former Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan and Deputy Finance Minister Mcebisi Jonas on March 31 unconstitutional, invalid and alternatively unlawful.

The foundation which filed the papers jointly with non-profit organisation My Vote Counts, also wanted Zuma’s decision to be reviewed and set aside.
