DA confident due process was followed in rescinding De Lille’s membership

DA federal executive deputy chairperson Natasha Mazzone on Wednesday told Polity that her party was confident that all due processes were followed to rescind Cape Town Mayor Patricia de Lille’s party membership yesterday.

Mazzone revealed that her party had received a letter of complaint against De Lille from Free State DA leader Patricia Kopane following De Lille’s interview with Eusebius McKaiser on his radio talk show on April 26, in which De Lille reportedly said she would resign from the party once she had cleared her name.

Mazzone said her party was aware of De Lille’s crimen injuria charges that she intended to lay against the DA.

However, Mazzone told Polity that she did not think that De Lille’s membership termination would have a massive effect on the party come election time, despite admitting that the issue has caused the party massive reputational damage.

 

North West premier Mahumapelo yet to resign

Supporters of North West premier Supra Mahumapelo gathered in Mahikeng on Wednesday, chanting "No Supra, no election".

Mahumapelo was due to announce his resignation at a media briefing on Wednesday morning, but it was postponed due to "new development", North West provincial government spokesperson Brian Setswambung said.

An urgent meeting of the ANC’s Provincial Executive Committee was convened at Embassy House in Mahikeng, where according to reports, PEC members refused to accept Mahumapelo's resignation.

 

And, Kenyan opposition leader wants constitutional amendments implemented

Kenyan opposition leader Raila Odinga is working for constitutional amendments to see through the nine-point agenda he agreed on with President Uhuru Kenyatta two months ago.

Odinga, the leader of the opposition coalition, the National Super Alliance, on Tuesday rallied his Orange Democratic Movement party to push for a restructure of the executive and for the introduction of a three-tier system of governance, Kenya’s Daily nation reported on Wednesday.

To this end a series of public events will be organised across the country to outline the terms of the March 9 meeting, commonly referred to as The Handshake, to Kenyans.
