De Lille no longer a member of the DA

The Democratic Alliance announced on Tuesday that Patricia de Lille has ceased to be a member of the party, thereby ending her seven-year rule as mayor of Cape Town.

Natasha Mazzone, the deputy chairperson of the DA's federal council, told a media briefing the "cessation of her membership" was based on the fact that de Lille breached the party's constitution by declaring her readiness to resign on a radio talk show.

De Lille's assertion that she was "ready to walk away" sealed her fate, said Mazzone.

James Selfe, the chairperson of the federal executive, confirmed that deputy mayor Ian Neilson will serve as acting mayor.

SABC ‘puts the record straight’ after 26 employees fired

The South African Broadcasting Corporation put the record straight' after it was reported that 26 staff members in their license collection department were fired last week.

Media Workers' Association of South Africa general secretary Tuwani Gumani confirmed that the workers were dismissed after embarking on a go-slow three months ago, despite obtaining a CCMA certificate that allowed industrial action.

SABC spokesperson Mmoni Seapolelo said employees had committed "an act of misconduct" in that they embarked on "unprotected strike action".

City Press reported that disgraced SABC boss Hlaudi Motsoeneng put the license collection agents, originally outsourced by global company Teleresources, onto three-year contracts.

And, Inter-ministerial committee denounces 'misleading' North West reports

The inter-ministerial committee appointed by Cabinet to deal with the health crisis in the North West, has lambasted the media for allegedly publishing misleading reports.

IMC spokesperson Phumla Williams said that, contrary to media reports, the provincial executive in the province was co-operating with the technical task team.

Ongoing protests calling for Premier Supra Mahumapelo to step down have exacerbated the situation at hospitals and clinics, where National Health Education and Allied Workers' Union members have been striking for more than two months.
