The executive should consider appealing Thursday's high court ruling instructing President Jacob Zuma to hand over documents he used to justify his Cabinet reshuffle, the ANC said.

While the party respected and supported the judiciary, it was up to Zuma and his executive to decide whether or not to reveal his reasons, spokesperson Zizi Kodwa said.

Arguing against the DA's application for access to the documents, Zuma's lawyers had told the High Court in Pretoria that he was exercising his powers in terms of section 91(2) of the Constitution and that he made an executive decision that deserved protection from disclosure.

 

The national foundations of three former presidents and a deputy president are expected to be part of the national dialogues initiative in Braamfontein today.

The foundations of former presidents FW de Klerk, Thabo Mbeki, Kgalema Motlanthe and former deputy president Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, will join other foundations which will come together to discuss the “deep and pervasive national general crisis” facing the country.

The foundations of Desmond and Leah Tutu, Robert Mangaliso Sobukwe, Chief Albert Luthuli and Helen Suzman will also participate in the kick-off of the national dialogues

 

EFF leader Julius Malema is expected back in the Newcastle Magistrate's Court in KwaZulu-Natal today over calls he made to supporters to invade unoccupied land.

In 2016 Malema was charged twice for contravening the Riotous Assemblies Act over comments he made to supporters in Newcastle and Bloemfontein. He has since also been charged under common law for the same matter, which goes on trial in July.

The EFF leader in 2014 told supporters that they should occupy unoccupied land because they needed the land in order to eat and work.
