ANC top six tells Supra to resign or be recalled

Time is running out for embattled North West Premier Supra Mahumapelo after President Cyril Ramaphosa met with him yesterday to communicate the ANC national working committee's verdict that he must resign or be recalled.

Two sources confirmed that Ramaphosa and other top six officials met with Mahumapelo yesterday afternoon in Johannesburg in a bid to get him to resign.

If Mahumapelo remains defiant and refuses to voluntarily step down, his fate will be decided by the party's NEC.

One NWC insider said that the dominant view was that Mahumapelo must resign.

De Lille accuses DA of delaying court challenge to Steenhuisen report

Cape Town Mayor Patricia de Lille says the court challenge she launched over the DA's internal "Steenhuisen report" was postponed in the Western Cape High Court yesterday because the DA apparently refused to hand over the evidence which informed the findings in the report.

She was demanding two documents so the case could proceed.

The first was a letter from Cape Town safety and security mayoral committee member JP Smith that de Lille says addresses allegations pertaining to security upgrades to her home and the shutting down of the City of Cape Town's special investigation unit.

The second item was an SMS she allegedly sent to someone regarding the scoring of Achmat Ebrahim's performance at the time he applied for the position of City manager.

 

Limpopo health department and NGO negotiate to prevent 'another Life Esidimeni crisis'

The Limpopo High Court has ordered the provincial health department and the Ndlovu Care Group to go back to the negotiating table and come up with a takeover plan for the NGO's programmes.

The group took Health MEC Dr Phophi Ramathuba to court to seek an interdict, after she announced it was cutting funding provided for the NGO, which runs ARV and TB treatment programmes in the province.

More than 3 000 patients receive treatment at its various centres.

The parties have three months to negotiate terms and a plan of action, before presenting it to the court.
