Gordhan says allegations of R20-million farewell for Ace Magashule should be investigated
Public enterprises minister Pravin Gordhan has spoken out about the misuse of public funds for a farewell event for outgoing Free State premier and African National Congress secretary general Ace Magashule.
Gordhan expressed his disapproval while addressing attendees at an event held to commemorate the anniversary of struggle stalwart and Rivonia trialist Ahmed Kathrada's death.
News24 reported that Magashule was expected to have a lavish farewell at the Free State rugby stadium and there were claims that more than R20-million from the state coffers had been used for the event.
Malema says Trollip’s days are numbered
Nelson Mandela Bay Mayor Athol Trollip might survive the vote of no confidence in him today, but his days are numbered and he will not see the end of his political term in office, EFF commander-in-chief Julius Malema told a packed Nangoza Jebe Hall in New Brighton yesterday.
Malema said they would accept the outcome of the vote of no confidence, but said EFF supporters should not have nightmares about the alliance between the DA and the Patriotic Alliance.
He said they have taken a decision and there was no way to retreat.
Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma municipality under administration
The Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma municipality in Ixopo, KwaZulu-Natal, has been placed under administration.
The decision was taken yesterday by the provincial executive council, led by Premier Willies Mchunu because the council failed to exercise executive decisions, including the appointment of senior officials and a municipal manager, according to Cogta.
Provincial Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs MEC Nomusa Dube-Ncube made the announcement at a special council meeting held at the municipality yesterday.
The municipality was established after the August 2016 local elections, by the merging of Ingwe and Kwa Sani local municipalities.
