Corruption Watch has called for Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini to be fired for the manner in which she was handling the matter of the South Africa Social Security Agency's readiness to distribute social grants to 17 million beneficiaries come April 1.

Dlamini's spokesperson Lumka Oliphant said the minister would not engage Corruption Watch in the public domain and that she was only accountable to the president, Cabinet and Parliament on all matters relating to her portfolio.

Former president Thabo Mbeki is still interested in seeing peace and democracy in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, but he would not get involved in issues there.

This comes after two human rights organisations had asked for solidarity and assistance from Mbeki and the Thabo Mbeki Foundation in the quest to pressure for elections in that country to take place this year according to a multi-party agreement on 31 December 2016.

The Congress of South African Trade Unions in the Western Cape plans to go on strike over what it calls the City of Cape Town's failure to address the water crisis.

The labour union will file an application for legal protest action with the National Economic Development and Labour Council.

Cosatu said the rich had more than enough money to pay fines and more expensive water bills.
