Zuma says he has never committed any crime

Former president Jacob Zuma insists that he has never committed any crime.

Speaking in his hometown of Nkandla during his welcome home prayer session, which was organised by the National Interfaith Council of South Africa and the Commission for Religious Affairs, Zuma told the crowd that the only crime he committed was to fight against the apartheid regime.

Zuma said he had been accused of crimes since 2005, yet no evidence had been found to support the claims.

 

Battle within ANC Gauteng structures turns nasty ahead of elective conference

The battle for control of the ANC in Gauteng has turned nasty with ANC Youth League members accusing Premier David Makhura of using "dirty tricks" to damage the image of economic development MEC Lebogang Maile and Emfuleni Mayor Jacob Khawe.

Maile is expected to stand against former Johannesburg mayor Parks Tau for the position of ANC deputy chair of the province while Khawe is expected to go up against current provincial secretary Hope Papo at the upcoming elective conference in June.

The latest spat was sparked by a statement released by Makhura on Wednesday announcing he had referred all forensic investigations to the Special Investigating Unit.

 

Ramaphosa apologises to Tutu

President Cyril Ramaphosa has apologised to Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu for "putting him through a period where he lost confidence" in the leadership of the ANC and in the leadership of the country.
 

In 2011, Tutu said he would pray together with South Africans for the downfall of the ANC like they did for the fall of the apartheid government.

Ramaphosa met with Tutu at his house in Hermanus yesterday.

Tutu, who appeared in good spirits, thanked Ramaphosa for the apology. He also gave Ramaphosa's government his blessing.
