Cosatu decides on march to Union Buildings
DA's Maynier asked to leave national assembly after Gupta jibe
And, Hundreds of thousands more leaked Gupta emails to be made available

Some of the Congress of South African Trade Unions' affiliates yesterday proposed a march to the ANC headquarters Luthuli House to demand that President Jacob Zuma step down as head of state.

Following discussions at Cosatu’s central committee meeting in Irene, they however decided on a march to the Union Buildings to protest against state capture instead.

Last week, Cosatu announced it had banned Zuma from its events. Some unions booed and heckled him at Cosatu’s Workers’ Day Rally in Bloemfontein.

Democratic Alliance MP David Maynier had to leave the National Assembly chamber yesterday when he refused to withdraw his remark that President Jacob Zuma reshuffled his Cabinet at the behest of the Guptas.

Maynier was the second-to-last speaker in the debate on the presidency's budget and took a theme many an opposition speaker took: Zuma's perceived destruction of the economy.

Maynier reminded the House about how Zuma couldn’t remember the nine points of his nine-point plan for the economy, during a question session earlier this year. Zuma laughed.

Maynier said the dramatic Cabinet reshuffle late on the night of March 30 had nothing to do with improving Cabinet's efficiency, as Zuma had said, but everything with handing Treasury to "his number one clients, the Guptas".

The extent of the Gupta family's alleged power over South Africa and its leaders could possibly be laid bare when between 100 000 and 200 000 leaked Gupta emails are expected to be made available to journalists soon.

A portion of these emails were leaked to the City Press and the Sunday Times, who broke the story at the weekend. Ongoing coverage of those leaks has continued on News24, City Press and TimesLive.

Daily Maverick's investigative unit Scorpio and amaBhungane said in an editorial on Thursday that they had access to a larger trove of emails and would make them available to many "bona fide journalists", along with reporting on stories emanating from them.
