The DA Cape Town caucus is currently engaged in last-minute talks to discuss withdrawing the planned motion of no confidence against Cape Town Mayor Patricia de Lille.

The councillors are meeting amid reports that a deal has been struck between De Lille and the party's top brass

De Lille said on Thursday morning that caucus was meeting, but that they need to agree to the proposals before it was official.

 

Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in South Africa on Thursday morning, the last head of state to arrive for the BRICS Summit.

The 10th BRICS Leaders' Summit continues today at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg where heads of states and more than 1 000 business people from Brazil, Russia, China, India, and South Africa are meeting until Friday to discuss trade and investment among their countries.

 

The Zimbabwe Republic Police will deploy 71 000 officers for the country's general elections next Monday and has put measures in place to ensure that the polls take place in a peaceful and secure environment, Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga has said.

Speaking at a press conference in the capital Harare, Matanga said police had already increased visibility through focused deployments throughout the country in the build-up to the elections and would continue on the day of the election, as well as the period after.
