Sisulu starts bid to lead ruling ANC

Human Settlements Minister Lindiwe Sisulu has accepted the nomination of some ANC branches to lead the ruling party, she told local media.

Sisulu, a veteran Cabinet Minister and a member of a family that along with the Mandelas were among the most prominent in the struggle against apartheid, joins a crowded race to succeed scandal-plagued President Jacob Zuma as ANC leader in December.

At least six branches of the ANC have nominated Sisulu as leader and she has publicly accepted, State broadcaster SABC reported.

ANC Western Cape prepares for crunch talks with Zuma, top 6

The Western Cape ANC is preparing for crunch talks with the party's top six leaders today, following the disbandment of the party's Cape Town metro leadership.

President Jacob Zuma and his fellow top officials will meet the provincial executive committee, disaffected leaders of the metro who lost their positions and the new ANC Cape Town regional task team.

The other NEC members are ANC national chairperson Baleka Mbete, treasurer general Zweli Mkhize, secretary general Gwede Mantashe, deputy secretary general Jesse Duarte, and Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa.

The six leaders each spent most of Sunday visiting one of the province's six regions, to ascertain how members there feel about the discord between provincial and regional leaderships.

And, Scopa condemns death threats against Sassa CEO

The chairperson of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts has condemned the alleged death threats against South African Social Security Agency CEO Thokozani Magwaza, labelling it “brazen lawlessness”.

In a statement issued today, Scopa chair Themba Godi said he had held a long discussion with Magwaza last night about the alleged death threats against him, which comes at a time of the finalising of the contract between Sassa and the South African Post Office to replace the disgraced Cash Paymaster Services in the payment of social grants.
