Campaigning in Port Elizabeth on Thursday, DA leader Mmusi Maimane told supporters he would resign if he thought his party was failing to deliver.

Maimane and the DA’s mayoral candidate for Nelson Mandela Bay Athol Trollip were warmly welcomed in Port Elizabeth’s townships and Northern Areas as they encouraged people to "vote out" the ruling ANC in what was expected to be a tough contest at the polls on August 3.

Maimane said  his party was the only government that could deliver adding that the ANC had long neglected the people.

 

The launch of the African Union Passport, considered a critical development to ease free movement of people, spur economic growth and development as well as promote Intra-African trade, is expected to take place on Sunday at the 27th African Union Summit in Kigali.

African Heads of State will officially launch the passport during the Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the AU, paving the way for beginning the process to commence issuance of this travel document.

Rwanda’s Foreign Affairs Minister Louise Mushikiwabo said the issuance of African passport was one of the African strategic initiatives to disband all movement restrictions, which will eventually create a conducive environment for inter-African trade.

Reckless driving, procurement infractions, arrests during apartheid and disciplinary processes regarding sick leave are among the declarations made by some of the candidates vying for the post of public protector.

However, they said these stains on their records would not prevent them from doing the job well.

In questionnaires submitted to Parliament's ad hoc committee during the shortlisting process, candidates had to disclose whether they had ever been found guilty of unprofessional conduct, or if they had faced disciplinary processes.
