Ramaphosa says government is working hard to create dynamic and enabling business environment

The South African government is working hard to create a dynamic and enabling business environment to promote greater productive investment in the economy, President Cyril Ramaphosa said yesterday.      

In a speech prepared for delivery at the business forum of his state visit to Saudi Arabia, Ramaphosa said South Africa was open for investment, as he invited Saudi Arabian companies to invested in the country.  

Ramaphosa said South Africa is a thriving democracy with an advanced and diverse economy, a sophisticated and well-regulated financial sector, and extensive transport, telecommunications and energy infrastructure.

Saudi Arabia has committed to invest about R133-billion in South Africa. This is expected to be invested in the energy and power creation sectors.

 

Cracks widens between Cosatu and North West ANC

The Congress of South African Trade Unions in the North West yesterday, blasted the ANC for boycotting its elective conference in Mahikeng.

Provincial secretary Job Dliso told reporters that delegates noted with huge disappointment and contempt the conspicuous absence of the ANC despite the organisation being invited.

He said delegates at the 5th elective conference tasked the provincial office bearers to initiate a bilateral meeting with the ANC in the North West to address their continued absence at Cosatu conferences and other pertinent issues affecting the operations of the tripartite alliance.

Despite the absence of the ANC at the Cosatu congress, the federation resolved to support the ANC in the 2019 general elections.

 

DA says Minister of land reform failed to secure land rights for millions

The DA has written to the South African Human Rights Commission, referring to the rural development and land reform minister requesting an investigation into the lack of protection for South Africans with insecure land rights.

KwaZulu-Natal DA leader Zwakele Mncwango said the ANC has failed to implement Section 25(6) of the Constitution, leaving the approximately 18-million people living on communal land without legal tenure.

Mncwango said the ANC and EFF were using the land hearings that are currently taking place across the country to continue to lie to South Africans about land ownership.
