Saftu says BLF members are 'fascist thugs'

Accusations of fascism are cropping up following the intimidation of journalists by members of the organisation Black First Land First.

The South African Federation of Trade Unions, led by Zwelinzima Vavi, yesterday labelled the BLF members "fascist thugs" in a press release.

Saftu also said it "strongly denounces" the harassment and intimidation of editors and journalists.

They describe this tactic as "part of a systematic drive by the corrupt faction to hollow out all institutions that support democracy".

Zuma appoints two acting judges to ConCourt

President Jacob Zuma has appointed two judges in acting capacities to the bench of the Constitutional Court.

Zuma announced yesterday that Justice Dumisani Hamilton Zondi, a judge of the Supreme Court of Appeal, and Gauteng High Court judge Justice Jody Kollapen will be acting in the positions from July 7 to December 30, 2017.

Last week, Zuma also appointed Justice Leona Valerie Theron to the bench of the Constitutional Court on a permanent basis, after consulting Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng and leaders of parties represented in Parliament, as required.

And, EFF says no one should hoard Guptas' 'corrupt money'

No bank, both locally and abroad, should be willing to save the "corrupt money" of the Guptas, the EFF said yesterday.

The party welcomed the decision of the Venda Building Society Mutual Bank to terminate its business relations with the controversial family, believed to be the masterminds of a State capture project.

EFF spokesperson and MP Mbuyiseni Ndlozi said that a family like the Guptas must be isolated by all South Africans. He said they were a mafia family right at the centre of turning South Africa’s democratic heritage into a meaningless and corrupt-ridden system based on nepotism, cronyism and general kleptocracy.
